Ecclesiastical Insurance Group -- EIG (UK)

Ecclesiastical Insurance, established in 1887, is a medium-sized, independent UK insurer which predominantly transacts property insurance. Its gross written premiums are approximately £300m and, whilst the majority of this is generated through its UK operations, it also has business centres in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Holland and the Mediterranean. Within the property insurance business, the company has also developed a number of specialised niches in addition to its traditional core market of the Anglican church. These include other churches of Christian denominations, charities, schools and colleges, and nursing and residential care homes. Its expertise with church buildings has also generated a strong involvement with other 'listed' properties and for this and other core areas the company provides a number of Guidance Notes, Technical Advice Sheets, as well as individual risk management advice covering a wide range of topics. As part of this process, the company also collaborates with other organisations, both in terms of guidance material and policy strategy, including The National Trust, English Heritage, Council for the Care of Churches, Fire Protection Association, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Building Research Establishment and the Museum and Galleries Commission.
